Ash Sutton interior designs take out major awards in 2016

Ash Sutton interior designs are taking Asia by storm. The Australian-born maestro recently took out top honours in not one, but two design awards. Proving he is a powerful player in the industry, his luxuriously sensual bar design for Ophelia won over the judges in signature, stylish fashion.

A collaboration with Hong Kong hospitality group Dining Concepts, Ophelia recently won the award for Best Bar or Restaurant in the FX Interior Design Awards. The focus of the 2016 awards was on celebrating international design excellence, with the judges impressed by the amazing attention to detail and unique decor on display at Ophelia. In particular, judges loved the combination of materials and vibrant green used throughout the bar design, creating a dramatic vibe.

Not content with just one prestigious award, Ash Sutton’s bar design for Ophelia also won the Hospitality category at the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards. Ophelia’s decadent take on creativity and interior design won over the expert judges.

And it’s not hard to see why the judges were so swept up in Ophelia – the magical bar design transports visitors back to the old-world glamour of the Far East. Drawing from Hong Kong’s colourful history and inspired by the tale of Mr Wong and his famous Javanese peacock, Ophelia oozes escapism and sensuality.

More than 600 000 hand-painted tiles combine with thousands of real peacock feathers, beaded curtains, swings, cages, velvet, leather and metalwork, creating a sense of fun and decadence. Live chanteuses are decorously draped across lounges suspended above the bar while choreographed dancers titillate crowds from over-sized birdcages.

Already among Hong Kong’s hottest nightspots, the award-winning Ophelia has thrust Ash Sutton interior designs well and truly into the international spotlight. Please contact us to find out more about current or future interior design projects.
